Happy thing

This Wednesday, Stan Sakai, one of the greatest visual storytellers of all time and creator of Usagi Yojimbo (perhaps my favorite comic) dropped by the store. I guess he was in town visiting Peter Laird, one of the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He was extremely nice, and was quite gracious when I indulged in a bit of gushing. He then asked if I'd like a sketch. I gave him the backing board and sharpie that he asked for, and he did a quick Usagi sketch, and then asked me if I'd like it for me, or for the store. That was a hard question, and I think it shows the depth of my commitment to the enterprise that I said 'the store.' So, Modern Myths now has a Stan Sakai original of its very own. Lefty seemed quite pleased to see it, too. Yay!!

the battle begins

Thank you everyone for your kind words of sympathy about my mother's illness. The good news is that she has a consultation with the most respected breast surgeon in the country next Wednesday at Mass General Hospital. Yay for living in the Boston area! Happily, today there is no new bad news.
