It's been awhile

since I last posted. And, I don't have the time/energy for some of the more personal stuff right now. But, here are a few things that have caught my eye recently, and mostly they all upset me.
Extinction nears for Whales and Dolphins:

Congress is backing the development of new tactical nuclear weapons, an incredibly bad idea, and hypocritical given the late foofrah about Iraqi and North Korean weapons of mass destruction. The heart of the matter is that these low-yield weapons make nuclear combat seem so much more feasible, sensible, moderate....

And, of course, problems continue here in MA. Rather than raise taxes, our gutless legislators and our evil Mormon governor (who should go back to Utah) are cutting state programs, even really necessary ones. Speaking as one of them, I believe that we should tax the rich. A lot. Bastards should feel lucky to get through the day uneaten. Also, after years of tax cuts, MA now has one of the lowest state tax burdens in the USA. But, god forbid people should pony up some of their corporate bonus money or stock dividends to keep a rape crisis hotline properly staffed. My god, it's nearly Memorial Day. We have to get down to the Vineyard to open the house!

We just fought a war to 'liberate' Iraq, yet we need to fight to liberate ourselves. (really, the whole WMD was just, well, an excuse. We'd been drin...eating pretzels again, and we were out of our heads. Now that we're sober and we can't find any WMDs, it was because Saddam was evil and we felt a moral imperative.) oh, yeah, and about the war: it seems that the rescue of Private Lynch was hyped up to make good PR, and only happened because the usual confusion and fuckups of war kept her doctors from delivering her to us two days earlier. Her 'amnesia' about her experience does begin to look as though it might have more to do with following orders than PTSD.

Another random note related to the war: Saddam Hussein apparently likes cheesy fantasy art.

And, finally, on a lighter note, a link my brother sent me. With an election only 18 months away, Iowans face the living hell of democratic presidential hopefuls.
