Read it and weep
Apr. 5th, 2003 10:23 pmThese are the lyrics to the Darryl Worley song "Have You Forgotten?"
Every time I try to shake off my disdain for country music, I see shit like this. Ignorant scumwad.
(Darryl Worley/Wynn Varble)
I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
Every time I try to shake off my disdain for country music, I see shit like this. Ignorant scumwad.

Date: 2003-04-09 08:27 am (UTC)There's your link. If you haven't heard of him, a quick Goole search will give you more.
At a bare minimum, he was in Baghdad, the Iraqi government knew he was there, and he walked away. Colin Powell mentionned him in his UN speech, but there's been a mysterious lack of attention to that by the press, IMHO.
Even if the publically available claims about al-Qaida links to September 11 are exagerrated or mere propaganda, it is beyond doubt that the Iraqi regime knew that one of the leaders of al-Qaida was sitting in Baghdad for at least a month. They did nothing to hinder him, even after a neighboring country asked for him to be arrested and extradited.
That alone is pretty damning-even if other claims are untrue.

Oh, well.

I much prefer these shitkickers on TNN where we can keep an eye on them, and not sitting in a basement somewhere shoveling manure into the back of a U-Haul truck packed with propane bottles. If it makes you feel any better, you will never hear that song in the store as long as I draw breath.

It's not just this song that makes me angry, though, it's his attitude about it and himself. Check out the transcipt of his appearance on Fox News with Hannity and Colmes. But take some dramamine first.

The difference being, the sinking of the REUBEN JAMES by a U-Boat did not start a war.

Date: 2003-04-11 02:06 pm (UTC)Woody Guthrie also wrote (i believe) this land is your land.
He is the father of Arlo Guthrie, the writer and singer of such classics as "Alice's Resturant", "The Pause of Mr Claus", "The Motorcyle Song"
