watched them plow for ten minutes at 5 AM. Liked the way that they made an immediate, visible difference. There's satisfaction in that. Like painting a fence with Hayden Higgins. The joy of a small, definite task that must be done, and when it is done it is over. It may need to done again later, but for now it is complete, and if the joy is in the doing, then there is happiness as well as frustration in that.

Also, something special about a job that makes an important difference, that saves lives. Parking lot doesn't do that, but the roads do. It must give some pride, to know that you do a job that saves lives. I'd like a job like that. I'd love to be grand, and important, an insider elite with access to corridors of power, fame, wealth, etc. But, really, I want the satisfaction of the guys driving the plows. If that brings wealth and power, OK. If it doesn't, just as well.

How do I do a job like that giving my talents and inclinations? Where do I start? How can I take a penchant for talking at people, being the center of attention, and being opinionated (perhaps with le mot juste) and make the plowman's life with it?
