Since so many people are marking the anniversary, I suppose I might also write a few words, as well. The fear and carnage of a year ago will always mark me with sadness, but it's not the pain of those horrible murders that comes to me now on reflection. Instead, I think of all that has been lost to us since then. Our corrupt, venal, self-serving, incompetent, stupid, short-sighted and above all evil leaders have turned our home into a ruthless garrison state. We have no rights that they must respect, and they have no interest but their own power and wealth, and they have no concern for the price others must pay so that they may have their selfish rewards. How many men languish in a special prison in Guantanamo Bay? How many more, besides that Padilla fellow from Chicago, are held totally incommunicado, as 'enemy combatants'? The fact that my life, or your life, has not be wrenched apart by 'security concerns' does not mean that we are safe from Homeland Security--it merely means that it hasn't gotten around to us yet. I seriously doubt that these measures are truly preserving us from further attacks, any more than our push to make war on Iraq will dampen the fires of hatred towards the US in other lands. I heard someone, I think Tom Daschle, comment that the terrorists hoped to destroy America with the attacks a year ago, and he confidently brayed that they had failed, that the real America was unaffected by the horrible tragedy. Look what this nation has done overseas this past year, and what the Usurper and his pack of goat-felching fuckwads plan to do, and tell me: are you sure?h

Well, he's right in a way. The terrorists didn't destroy our country, our own leaders have done the job quite nicely, IMHO.
