Yesterday, Millari and I bought a house. It's in Easthampton, and we're very excited now that it's ours. We'll be moving in over the next couple of weeks, and working to make it our home. This is the first home either of us has owned, and we're looking forward to the adventure of calling the shots.... and paying for everything. Happily, we were able to bargain a favorable price, and the payments will amount to nearly $100 less than we are paying in rent. Utilities should also be lower, and I understand that with tax deductions we can further reduce the effective cost of the house.
Yesterday was also my 36th birthday, and in addition to closing on the house, we had a lovely breakfast at Sylvester's with our agent, Jeannie Munson (I use her real name because she was fabulous, and if you are interested in buying a house in the area, you should hire her if you can), and then we discovered the following: 1) Herrell's ice cream will give you a free sundae on your birthday, so we got sundaes and took them to our new home to celebrate; 2) the Hotel Northampton will give you a free meal on your birthday, if you and at least one other person go the Wiggins Tavern; 3) East Heaven hot tubs will give you a free half hour tub on your birthday. So, it was a great day, and we both very frugal. Though I ate WAY too much dessert.
Millari also got me a new Motorola V66 cellphone, since my old one broke. I don't like the new replacement I got for free from T-Mobile (I don't like the sounds or the controls, and hate that it doesn't have voice dialing for when I'm driving), so Millari got me a new one just like my old one, even though they don't make them anymore. Yay!
Oh, and she told me that she ordered the Venture Brothers season 1 DVD for when it comes out in June. More yay!
And now, folks join us for birthday dinner at Osaka, where there will be Hibachi!
