So, my former governor has picked Paul Ryan as his Vice-Presidential candidate.  He's gone from touting his business experience to touting his executive branch experience (but not his signal achievement as governor, namely reforming health care) to attacking the president's lack of success in overcoming Republican opposition to fixing the systemic problems in our national economy, to picking a guy who A) has no business experience, B) has served in Congress, but never in the executive branch, and C) is best known for a plan that will impoverish the nation if implemented.

Seriously, Saruman, you do realize that you only get to keep the Ring for at most 8 years, right?

Well, does anyone really think Romney has a chance in hell of winning? I mean, the candidate field was pretty shallow this year to begin with

Sadly, yes, I do think he has a chance in hell of winning. George W. Bush was re-elected with the most votes anyone has ever received in a US election in 2004, despite the horror show of Iraq.

President Obama is far superior to W, but the economy is bad and he's black, so many people blame him for their problems. So, why not Romney?

Well, really, technically anyone has a *chance* in winning, but George Bush won in 2004 because there really wasn't a viable Democratic candidate. Similarly, while I am likely more conservative than you, unless something dramatically changes, I will be voting for Obama this year because Romney just comes off weak. He's the strongest nomination the Republicans could find and thats just sad. The republican party is essentially split between the rational sorts and the religious right. My bet? Sheer inertia keeps Obama in office. The real fight will be in 2016.

If we all survive the dec 21st mayan doom, of course.
