The rules:

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

1. Having made sneaky inquiries about you, I know you're a DC guy. Why do you prefer DC over Marvel? Which stories did you like best? (I realize this kind of question can result in long essays but heh! I've never had this conversation, so.)

Well, it's not about preferring DC superheroes to Marvel superheroes, per se. It's more about what each company chooses to publish. Marvel has put out some really good books, like pretty much everything from Brian Bendis, for example, or Ed Brubaker's Daredevil, or Runaways, or Astonishing X-Men (I hadn't realized that Scott Summers could be an interesting character until Joss Whedon demonstrated that fact.)

DC, however, has published Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Sandman, Dark Knight Returns, Ex Machina, Y the Last Man, Gotham Central.... Really, there's no comparison. Their superhero catalog is as good or better, and the list of fantasy and SF is vastly superior. OF course, DC does have several books by Alan Moore, so it's perhaps not a fair comparison.

2. Do you like your job? Is it something you'd have envisioned yourself doing when you were in college?

On the whole, yes. It's comfortable, I'm good at it, I get to play D&D and read comics as part of my paid activity, and I like customer service. Still, I could have more autonomy, and I crave a sense of meaning and accomplishment. Selling art is nice, but I don't think I'm making the world a much better place, or helping other people live better lives.

I didn't imagine any kind of future when I was in college, so this was definitely not on my radar. Really, it just sort of crept up on me.

3. Beyond creating gifts for [info]millari, are you interested in writing fic? Is it something you do as a hobby? Even if it isn't, what's a story you'd like to write?

Sometimes. When I have an inspiration, I enjoy writing fic, and it come easily. I do wish I had the emotional fortitude to write more, which is one reason I'm doing Yuletide again this year.

The story that resolves the dangling threads and inconsistencies of BSG, especially relating to the Olympic Carrier.

4. What kind of music do you like? Do you play any instruments? If yes, would you have prefered learning a different one instead? If no, is this something you can imagine you'd enjoy?

I like... some of many different things. Some bands/performers I quite like are: Portishead, Radiohead, Rush, the Police, Kate Bush, Talking Heads, DJ Shadow, the BSG sound tracks, Jethro Tull, Bjork... My favorite symphony is Gorecki's Third, although I adore Mozart's Requiem, Handel's Requiem, and Beethoven's 7th.

I play no instruments. I tried violin as a child, displayed no real talent, and gave it up because I didn't enjoy it. In retrospect, I wish I had learned how to play something; perhaps piano?

5. What's the most obscure job you ever took?

Probably this one. I haven't had a lot of jobs. If not the gig at Modern Myths, it would have to be my stint at the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, a non-profit free speech organization. We raise money and provide legal assistance to creators, publishers, and retailers in the comic book industry who face legal infringements (usually criminal charges) to their 1st Amendment rights.

Bonus:
What IS a Golux? :)

My favorite character in a treasured book: James Thurber's The 13 Clocks.
