I heard a report on NPR this evening about Mexican narco-gangsters killing 20 people in a drug rehab center in Juarez. Thus is apparently the fifth or sixth time this has happened. It seems that rehab clinics are bad for business.

I can't imagine such a thing happening in Massachusetts. It would be a national crisis if it did. There are fellow humans living in such misery that heroin seemed a better choice, and now that they're trying get clean, there are terrorists willing to kill them for it.

Is this really the same planet where I was at Dragoncon at the same time?

It is. In all seriousness.... a ton of kids died of starvation while we had dinner with AJ and ate seafood from exotic places. I normally live sorta green but reallyt dragoncon and all the bottled water reminded me how fucking sweet we have it. I mean... wow...

Nobody who uses plastic or sells plastic stuff (like, say, water bottles or D&D minis) can seriously call themselves 'green'. I wish I could.

Still, DC was WAY off the hook. I felt virtuous for buying groceries and making breakfasts and lunches during the con. Yay for expensive suite!

We really are blessed in a lot of ways. I mean... you're lucky to buy the groceries. In a lot of ways I feel guilty how I was splurging on prepared foods. And bottled water.
