This weekend, M is out of town at con.  She went down with a few of our friends, and they're all having a lovely time, and I am pleased that they are.  However, it's become clear to me that I must more actively seek out social connections with people, because there have been several occasions recently in which I have felt left out, because people are inviting her to events, or sending her IMs and such, and ignoring me.  I'm not used to that.

To be fair, I think I used to put more time into my friendships, and I'm now paying the price for years of spending almost all my free time with M.  (Heck, as M pointed out, I used to put more time into this LJ, and I used to post more engagingly chatty, fannish posts, which made it easier for folks to get to know me. Which is a valid point.)

So, rather than simply bitch and moan at home (or even here), I have been pushing myself out of my shell, by joining a writing workshop, getting into a new D&D game, and going out for drinks with friends.

Thus, I was especially pleased that [profile] lostcircuit invited me to her party this evening.  She served tasty hors d'oeuvres, made smoothies, and made me feel very welcome in her charming home.  (Also, her cat is totally adorable, and she looked lovely in her party dress.  I wish I had dressed up a bit, even though no one else did.)

The other guests were, basically, the entire Amoeba, and they were, of course, excellent company.  I had forgotten that tomorrow is Syd's birthday, so I dashed back to the store and picked up a copy of Cash & Guns, a silly card game that basically involves pointing orange foam guns at other players like a John Woo movie standoff, which was fun for the party, and then Syd (who won) got to take it home.

In short, I had a great time, and it was exactly the sort of 'get out of the house and socialize' thing I really wanted to do tonight.  I'm very grateful to LC for including me in her social circle, and I hope to do it again soon.

And now, Dr. Who!
