Maybe I should get used to it

For the past few months, I have been going to a Wednesday night writer's workshop. It's been a good stimulus for writing (I actually write) and a great way to experience different writing styles and hear from people with interests different from mine. (None of them, for example, read comics or have even heard of Battlestar Galactica.) The organizers, Robin and Carol, are truly nice, warm, welcoming people, and they seem to have taken an instant liking to me. I have found it actively disconcerting at times, because they are so happy to see me, hear my writing, meet my wife, and otherwise act like old friends. It's wonderful.
The other night, I chatted online for awhile with Millari and her friend DB, who has apparently been reading this journal. (Hey!) Anyway, DB was also friendly and chatty, and complimented me on being funny, and also gave the impression of actually enjoying getting to know me.
As I may have mentioned here before, last June I went to my college reunion, and many of the people I met remembered me, and I was surprised (and surprised that I was surprised) that they all were happy to see me.
Thus, I must conclude that I apparently don't expect people to like me, and that quite often, people do. So I should, too.
OK, I'm going to seize the moment, and write some more of the fic I promised Usakeh.
