(If the link doesn't work, McCain states his support of abstince only sex education and family planning programs.  Then he is asked if condoms prevent transmission of HIV, and, after long pause, says that he doesn't know.  To be fair, he does say that he's following the lead of Senator (and Dr.) Tom Coburn!)

That's your only reason? Man, there are lots of other reasons, and if opening your mouth to opine on topics of which one knows nothing disqualified people, the list of Presidential prospects would be thin...which would probably be an improvement, but would be rather unprecedented.

There are much better reasons to think McCain should never, ever be President: this older article (http://www.d-n-i.net/fcs/spartacus_mr_smith.htm) gives many, and a newer summation is here (http://www.reason.com/news/show/118937.html).

The really scary thing, for me, is that the GOP race appears to be between him and Giuliani, while the Democrats are very likely to nominate Hillary Clinton. (I think Obama-mania is petering out, now that the press is actually examining him critically, and I really can't see him getting nominated for President anytime soon.) This is like being asked to choose between cholera and bubonic plague.

Those are many reasons, all good. I noted this because I thought it nicely encapsulated McCain's mix of duplicity, wrong-headedness, shameless pandering, and unprincipled willingness to do evil if it will gain him power.
