Oct. 14th, 2006 02:01 amThis evening
millari and I went to the birthday party for
morlock thrown by his wife and his girlfriend, with many other folks in attendance. I spent much of the evening chatting with
anzovin and
sundart, both of whom I knew only very slightly, and had a lovely time discussing fights in movies and what makes some good and others less so, plus the joys of Lost and Battlestar; the terrors of MAD and life in the 80s; and the sadness of parents dying and illness (and the dubious joys of mixed blessings, e.g. developing AIDS can cure Crohn's Disease.) I must confess that I don't understand exactly how the interplay between those five people work, but theirs does seem to be a peaceable kingdom. It was nice to be included in the fun, even though I don't understand their in-jokes. I'm probably too damn old now, but ten years ago I was probably too... poorly socialized, perhaps? and wouldn't have been part of the group at all.
M and I left before the party was truly over, dashed home, made a fire in our woodstove (which is trickier than the fireplaces with which I grew up) and then watched episode 3.3 of Battlestar (oh, things are going so well. Pity that won't last.) and second season finale of the Venture Brothers, Showdown at Cremation Creek. Yay! and now it's over, for who knows how long. Awwww.....
And, I just realized that this weekend is, for me, fucked. Tomorrow I have to open the store, then dash home, hop in the car, and drive straight back to Andover for dinner, then tomorrow is celebrate D's birthday, and then drive back so I work on Monday. Yesterday and today have been scattered days for me, and I'm particularly aware that I have done almost no writing at all this past week. I have finished the first draft of a story (not that long, perhaps 6000 words) set in Laudan. It's got potential, and if I make time for it, it will grow and blossom. So, naturally, I have fucked around and done nothing. Curse me and my ADD ways.
Oh, well, there being nothing left of today, I must resign myself to tomorrow. On the plus side, right now, Feisty is curled up next to me and purrrrring.
