The first episode of the Venture Brothers season 2 premiered tonight.  It was a very dense episode, and while there were several parts that seemed like they should have been funny, it all felt very rushed, none of J.G. Thirlwell's great theme music, and all the voices sounded...off somehow.  I don't know why, but no one sounded quite right, so it gave the episode a strangely ersatz feel, sort of the way the pilot felt after seeing the first season.  There were only a couple of moments where I felt much like laughing.  I'll see it again, and I hope that it will grow on me, but right now, my least favorite episode.  (except for the pilot.)

i know how you feel. On the livejournal community, somebody thanked Jackson and Doc for making us care about the characters. I'll have to see it again before I'm sure what I think, but I for one found myself caring less about Brock and Doc, given their attitudes about the boys' deaths. Also, I'm not sure if I'll able to care about Hank and Dean if they do indeed come back. It'll be weird to see them running around acting the way I'm used to, when I know it isn't really the same.

oh and also, you're right. a very dense and very talky episode. I wonder if Jackson wrote it. He has the rep for doing that.
