If the Filthy Assistant and I were still on speaking terms I could ask her. Several years ago, back when I was living down town with FA, Miles and Feisty, I came home one day to find only Miles in the apartment. It took me half an hour to realize that something was amiss. Eventually, I found Feisty hiding under the wheelchair ramp outside. I'm still not sure how she got out, but I suspect that she fell out the window, possibly with well-meant help from Miles. Today, Feisty topped that.

Because Millari is still home recovering from the pox, only I left the house today, and I only did so twice, both times hurrying out the door, first at 10:30 AM and then at 7:30 PM. So the front door was only open for a few short times, and only when I was going through it myself. Somehow, without my noticing, Feisty, who has been an indoor cat for the entire seven years that she has lived with me, slipped out. An hour ago,I noticed that she definitely wasn't anywhere in the house. So, M and I started looking. Eventually, we heard her calling from out back, and I went out, and she darted out from under the back porch and ran off under a car. After another ten minutes I realized that, while I had gotten a flash light, she had run off even further. I eventually tracked her down and coaxed her back into the house.

She's been a weird mix of pissed with me, happy to see me, comforted to be home and exhilerated by her adventure. And, she went up to Stinky and touched noses with him. It was a very tender moment, and I am so pleased that she's feeling brave enough to do it. But I have no idea where this came from.
