I heard a DJ on the radio this AM stumbling his way through a disavowal of most his normal schtick, i.e. sexual innuendo, because he'd seen a picture on the web of a group of men assaulting a woman during Mardi Gras in Seattle this year. I checked out the picture, and it is quite brutal. I do NOT recommend that you look at it if you think it might bother you in any way. But, I bring this up here because I don't think people talk about the way our culture has enshrined and sexualized violence by men against women. And because the picture won a national journalism award, despite heavy debate about whether it was ethical to give an award to such a picture and especially whether it was ethical to print it. And, finally, because the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, which submitted the photo, apparently didn't publish it all.

Here is the link to the photo: http://www.nppa.org/bestofpj/ethics.htm

You know what I found myself wondering?

What happened to the woman? And whether or not those assholes in the picture were arrested and charged. After all there is photographic proof that they were doing it.

What is the story?

Proof? Hell, did you see the guy videotaping the whole thing?

I don't know what happened to the woman. The stories I found on the Post-Intelligencer's website ( http://www.seattle-pi.com ) didn't mention this particular incident, and this photo isn't one of the fifteen images of Mardi Gras violence on their site--some of which are equally graphic and disturbing, but which only depict men attacking other men.
