troubling news
Nov. 12th, 2003 10:56 amLast week I took my mom to the hospital for a biopsy. We were assured that we'd hear back very soon if there was trouble, so by Friday I was feeling pretty relaxed about the whole thing. Yesterday we found out that, in fact, my mom has breast cancer. The doctors are still upbeat and unhurried, which bodes well, I think, but sometime soon mom will be going to Mass General for surgery. I'm sorta worried, but it doesn't seem entirely real to me at this point, so we'll see how I am tomorrow. Mom is actually more calm than she was when she didn't know the test results, though she did get some tranquilizers from Dr. Gendlerman. (weird fact: the family doctor used to a soviet particle physicist before defecting to the west.) Any of you that know my mom, I'm sure she'd appreciate calls or cards of sympathy. Watch this space for updates.
