slightly holidizzy
Nov. 27th, 2010 02:51 amYesterday and today have been all about celebrating a holiday I have long disliked, largely because I found it to be a dour time of year, the pilgrims to be dull, and the whole thing revolved around seeing family, which was at times unpleasant. Decades after my childhood, though, and this week has been all about family, and it's been very satisfying.
I worked as normal Monday to Wednesday (though an attractive young woman with a penchant for languages wound up chatting with me for half an hour at the store; I should have been working, but not only did I get to learn something about linguistics, I got to flirt with a woman young enough to be my daughter. It felt good, though I'm also slightly contemptuous of myself for finding someone that much younger than I a good emotional fit; I should be more mature at my age. She seems sort of punky, so I'll probably turn out to be way too button-down for her, but we're going to have coffee in a couple of weeks anyway. I'm contemplating learning a few phrases of Russian, Spanish, or Quenya, just to make an impression.)
Yesterday, M and I went back to Andover to see my family, which was lovely. My cousin from Honolulu was there, on break from Cornell. I am very glad we made the trip to see her. I quite like her, and I think her interest in avian ethology is awesome. I hope she's at the start of a long and distinguished career. I also got to spend some time with Mom and my brother (though I always feel like I don't make enough time for them), and my father, who's becoming truly absent-minded. I must resolve some of my own dilemmas and spend more time helping my family.
Saw Harry Potter 7 part 1, and I enjoyed it. It's faithful to the book as I remember it, and I quite enjoyed it. I don't think I ever got around to seeing the last one, though. Drove home afterwards, go back rather late.
This morning, woke up at 5:15, in part to take a friend to Walmart for early shopping madness. Also discovered that the power was out. Wound up going back to bed and sleeping until normal time, which was fine by me.
Anyway, putzed around, tended the fire, and eventually made some dishes to contribute to a little household Thanksgiving M and I did along with another friend (who made redacted but delicious dishes for the occasion). It was a day of turkey roasting and good cheer, and then we watched Christopher Nolan's 2000 film Memento, which is just as good as I recall.
And now I'm posting this somewhat meandering little resume, but it's late and time for sleep before work tomorrow.
Good night internets.
