Yesterday, I unexpectedly had the full day off, so I slept late, completely forgot about the Pride Parade (and thus missed it, the first time I could have gone in years, I freaking forgot.), had a long talk with M about how to balance mingling our lives with maintaining our identities, especially when it comes to spending time with friends, and meeting new people.  While I am much more forward than she is, and much better at feeling comfortable with groups, she has actually gone out and made new friends and developed new interests over the past few months, and I haven't.  I have felt a bit of shmo because of it, and yesterday I was struck by the fact that, while M and I each had our friends before we were a couple, and we have made friends as a couple, all of my friends are now our friends (well, with one exception who dropped me), but some of her friends are still really her friends.  Our talk was fruitful and I'll just have to try and be more like my wife in yet another way.  (I am pleased, however, that this is yet another vindication of my maxim that every strength is also a weakness.)

Then, I tried and failed to find a good opening scene for some BSG fan fic I'm writing.  (I feel a little embarassed to admit that I'm writing fan fic, but only a little, and when I'm done, it will not only be good, it present a decent version of how they should have handled one plot development in second season.)

Then I drove to Amherst, had thai food with [profile] sydneycat, dropped off all the boxes that had been cluttering up the Team Aguilar basement so the Amoeba can move, and chatted for awhile with [personal profile] morlock, [profile] anzovin, and [profile] sundart, which was I quite enjoyed.  Then I came home, spent more time with M, and went to bed.

Today I had a lovely day.  M and I brunched at the Esselon Cafe with [personal profile] omnia_mutantur and

Then, we saw Hot Fuzz at the Cinemark, and loved it.  I strongly recommend it to everyone who thinks my opinion is worthy of consideration.  It's really funny, but it's also surprisingly dramatic, clever, and suspenseful.  It employs action film tropes judiciously, and manages to be both exciting and funny.  At least, I thought so.

Then, unaccustomed to having the rest of the afternoon ahead of us, M and I came home and did yard work.  I can, thus, say unto you all: this is a pretty good year for my allergies.  Last year, after all the rain, I could never have mowed the lawn as I did today.  Happily, this means that I'm getting to it before it's a two or three feet high.  I wish I didn't have to mow it at all, but since I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do it, I'll guess I'll have to deal.

There had been talk of Midnight tonight, but only one person actually got back to me about it, so we went to India House with [profile] sphinxvictorian & [profile] cirrussundog instead.
Then we came home and we wrote.  I also IM chatted with [personal profile] cerebel and a little bit with [profile] _ehakus_ (whom I look forward to meeting this weekend.)

Now, I'm posting in LJ and exploring the fun of putting links in my entries.
