It's not at all clear from the Globe accounts if the faculty at Milton academy knew about it, but more information is coming to light that makes their decision look a lot better. Apparently, the under-age fellatrix at the center of the matter comes from a disturbed family. Her father admitted to fondling himself in front of 11 year old girls a few years ago when he was teaching at another private school. The article does not make it clear, but it is possible that he, in fact, now teaches at Milton, and the school may be responding to these incidents based upon their knowledge of him as much as anything else. Certainly, the whole thing is getting creepier.

Is there a larger basis to US claims to superpower status than: we have the best equipped military in the world and we aren't afraid to use it? Years ago, we were the richest nation on earth, but that hasn't been true since the 80s, I think. So, is our international 'greatness' based merely on our ability to more thoroughly kill whomever we want? If nothing else, shouldn't we rethink what it means to be a superpower, and what we can reasonably hope to accomplish, when all we have is a really big hammer?

(Does anyone else remember Ben Endlund's old comic, the Tick? In one issue, the Tick went to a superhero bar in New York and was comparing powers with other heroes. "What's your power, Hand Grenade Man?" "Power? Who needs a power? I have a hand grenade."
