I should have done this yesterday
Jul. 30th, 2007 10:57 amYesterday, a plethora of topics worthy of post were buzzing in my head. Today, nothing. Curse you, restful night of sleep!
Well, I have read several really good books in this past week. I read Miki Falls: Spring & Summer by Mark Crilley, which is a young teen romance by guy who did (does, I hope) Akiko. And yes, I know no one else seems to know that book. So, I'll make this simple: READ THIS BOOK. It's a charming, elegantly simple, and the emotions are genuine, not churned out.
Crecy, by Warren Ellis, is a combo historical graphic novel/essay about the battle of Crecy in 1346, and how it shapes our world today. It's interesting, informative, engaging, and short. And cheap.
I have started, but not finished, Ellis's new prose novel, Crooked Little Vein. It's entertainingly weird and a bit sick (Godzilla bukkake anyone?) and if you liked Transmetropolitan, you'll love it. Sydneycat, you need this book, stat.
Harry Potter book 7: Wow, great read. Rowling ended her series with a series of bangs. None of the 750 pages felt like useless padding to me, she wrapped up all the loose ends, didn't cop out on the tragedy of lots of people dying, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't hate the epilogue as many people seem to have done, but it certainly did suck the emotional energy out of the ending. Perhaps I shall speculate more on that later, when I don't have to leave for work.
