Normally, I would discount such a concern, because I put the tree in my car yesterday, so it CAN'T burn my house down, no matter how old and kindly it gets. Normally, I would simply laugh.
But, it turns out that spontaneous combustion is no respecter of locales or cliches. I went out to the car to see the inside wreathed in smoke. The door was too hot to handle, so all I could do was watch as it burned, and eventually the gas tank went up, too. (Not nearly as big a boom as on TV.) So, that's a bummer. The hell of it is that the tree didn't burn up completely, so I STILL have to get rid of its smoldering carcass somehow.
This would be funny if it happened to someone else.
